Christmas... so far

We spent a fun-filled 5 days with Jay's family at Buffalo Lake for Christmas! Since returning home, we've gotten to spend some time with my high school friends who are in town. Later today, we'll be celebrating Christmas with my family. Merry Christmas!

December 2010

Merry Christmas! December has brought lots more firsts for Theo! Between Christmas parties and Jay's travels, it's been another busy month! One of the highlights for me was the day Jay took the afternoon off from work and let me go Christmas shopping all by myself. It was perfectly timed and an awesome break for me. I think I'm going to try to make it an annual tradition! There are lots more fun times ahead with our families in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois!

Thanksgiving and early December

Happy Holiday season! In the past few weeks, Theo enjoyed his first Thanksgiving and watched us decorate the house for Christmas! He was quite interested in the tree at first, and still occasionally pulls an ornament or two off the bottom of the tree, but now he ignores it for the most part. I think he was mostly excited to find some new things around the house to look at and play with. We almost attended Theo's first Christmas party, but we didn't quite make it... (explanation in photo caption). Jay and I are looking forward to the JCI BE party - a night away from home with food, drinks, and music!

In other news, Theo has 5 teeth and is working on the 6th. He pulls up on anything and everything, and has started to "cruise" along some furniture. And best of all, he says both "dada" and "mama"!

10 months old!

Today Theo turned 10 months old! His favorite activities include reading books, throwing balls, crawling around, and pulling up on anything & everything! This month we had a fun visit with Sarah and Megan who took the train down from Minneapolis to spend the night with us. The next day all 5 of us drove out to Fort Atkinson to have dinner with the Nelsons. It was a great visit! Click below for the latest photos.

Happy 7th Anniversary to us!

Today is our 7th anniversary! Jay celebrated by working in Wuxi, China for the day and enjoying a Korean dinner in the evening. I celebrated by taking Theo to Kindermusik in the morning and going for a jog by Lake Michigan. North Beach was beautiful and deserted this afternoon. Theo enjoyed his time in the stroller and promptly fell asleep on the way home. Tonight we are going out to dinner with a friend.

Click below for the latest photos. There are a lot of them, but I wanted to post extra for Jay to see while he was away.

Highlights of this month include:
- a trip to Chicago with Gary, Deb, & Gary's parents on 10/10/10.
- watching Alex learn to ride a bike without training wheels.
- Elliott's birthday party at My Gym in Aurora, IL.
- a 4-day visit to Naperville, IL to stay with Alina, Steve, Elliott, Rosemary, and Gretchen.
- Theo turning 9 months old!

Theo's likes:
- standing at his Leap Frog table.
- crawling.
- clapping.
- waving.
- reading his peek-a-boo books.
- making silly noises.
- eating.
- talking on the phone to Daddy.

Dislikes:
- being hungry.
- having paper that he was eating taken away.
- his daddy being in China.

Fall fun!

We've been having a fun fall so far! Theo has been acquiring lots of new skills lately, such as clapping, waving hello/goodbye, and crawling! I especially love the clapping since I feel like a rockstar during my renditions of "Itsy, Bitsy Spider" and "Where is Thumbkin?", as well as when I change a diaper, feed him food, or simply come into the room! Theo loves to wave at Jay whenever he sees him, but he has also waved at friends who come over to the house. His crawling is... unique to Theo at this point (see video). He definitely gets where he needs to go, but it seems like he could make things easier on himself! Pictures include:
- Sept 25th in Illinois - we went from home to Evanston to drop Jay at school, to Schaumburg to see the Rodgers family, to Hinsdale to visit Alina and her new baby girl, back to Evanston, and back home again!
- Videos of Theo clapping and crawling.
- Visits to Milwaukee County Zoo and a pumpkin farm.
- Playdates with various friends.

We have lots more fun planned this month, but are still deciding what to do when Jay goes to China. Ten days without him at home sounds like a long time! Fortunately I have lots of options, but I just can't decide yet!

8 months old!

Theo is now 8 months old! His favorite activities are eating, rolling around on the floor, listening to me sing, and generally being silly. Below are two albums. The first one is a few pictures from the past week. The second album is my own little photo shoot that I did of Theo in the backyard yesterday. Skip that one if you don't want to see 17 pictures of Theo in the same outfit with different looks on his face! (Although he is pretty cute... and Jay and I are in couple of the photos too!)

The Latest - August & September

Wow - so it's been over a month since I updated the blog. We had a busy remainder of the summer... and fall is turning out to be busy as well! Theo will be 8 months old next Wednesday! He is scooting around on his belly a lot, becoming much more vocal, eating many different fruits and veggies, and generally enjoying life. We are never short on fun at our house!

We've been taking lots of videos lately. Some of them may be longer than you care to watch, but we think they're cute! Click HERE to see them.

Cute photos from this week

This week Theo and I went out to dinner with my parents to celebrate their 43rd anniversary. Theo was all dressed up, so I had to take a few photos. I've also included a video of what happened when Theo tried peas.

July & August

It's been a busy few weeks since Theo turned 6 months old. He's been eating lots more foods, including oatmeal, carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, prunes, and pears! We went on vacation to the Chain O Lakes area near Waupaca, WI. And Theo has been making more friends. Click on the happy pontoon driver for Chain O Lakes pics. Theo is 6 months old!

Wow - 6 months old already! Theo is still lots of fun. He has learned to sit on his own, play with his rattles and other toys, find creative ways to sleep, and tried a veggie for the first time!

Theo's latest tricks

This past week, Theo tried rice cereal for the first time. He loved it! Click on the photo for more images and a video! Unfortunately, we're not so sure that it agreed with his tummy, so we stopped for a couple days and may try again later this week. Theo has also been sitting up like a pro this week. He can amuse himself with his toys for a long time. On Saturday we went to Chicago to meet up with my friend Helen and her baby Miles, who were visiting from Ohio. Today we spent the day at North Beach in Racine. It was a beautiful day and we both got to go sailing on our friend Casey's sailboat. What a fun weekend!

4th of July

Another fun trip to Minnesota for the 4th of July!

5 months old!

We had a few more adventures after Father's Day - most notably Theo's first Brewers game! He did pretty well, although I think he enjoyed the tailgating more than the game. Jay's softball games are a little more his speed! We also had a fun overnight visit with Heidi & Jay who drove in from Massachusetts. (That morning they had come from Toronto!) Today President Obama was in Racine, but we forgot to try to get tickets. Turns out the line was pretty long to get them, so we probably wouldn't have gotten any anyway. Those who have visited us have had a taste of O&H kringle - now you can say that you've eaten the same kringle as the President - he stopped at O&H on his way into town! Anyway, it's cool that he was in Racine again. (I had seen him when he was here campaigning a few years ago.) Next adventure is Theo's first trip to Buffalo Lake for the 4th of July!

June so far

Happy Father's Day! We've had a busy month so far and have finally been able to enjoy some nice weather. Click on the cute picture of Theo to see more pictures of what we've been up to.

One especially fun event was Jerome, Jerry, and John's visit to Racine for the annual Case tour and fishing trip. Jay got to go along on the tour and fishing trip, and Theo and I even got to join them for dinner at the Yardarm! Thanks, Case IH! (Click on the pic for more!)

Memorial Day Weekend

This past weekend, we took Theo on his first trip up to the Twin Cities! The main event was the celebration of Alex's college graduation. It was Theo's first time meeting Uncle Alex and also his first time meeting Aunt Kari, Uncle John, and cousins Olivia, Kailey, Charlie, and Jade. He had no idea that he had such a big family! It was also our first time meeting little Jade. It was so much fun to see everyone. Hopefully Theo will always love Minnesota as much as we do!

Sarah Elizabeth Photography

Hey, all you Twin Cities people! Our friend Sarah just launched her new website and is having a mini-photo shoot giveaway. Check out her blog for more details:
http://sarahelizabethphotos.blogspot.com/2010/05/summer-photo-shoot-giveaway.html

I hope to win the giveaway myself so that we can have some professional photos of Theo taken! Even if we don't win, we plan to have Sarah photograph him at some point. She took a few photos of him when he was 7 weeks old and they were so cute! Check them out here: http://sarahelizabethphotos.blogspot.com/2010/03/baby-theo.html

Oh, and if you book a session with Sarah, mention my name and I get a referral bonus - score!

What's so funny?

I finally got to hear Theo's laugh today! Jay has gotten him to laugh three other times - each time when I wasn't home. We managed to capture the last few giggles on the camera. We'll have to be a little more stealthy in the future - once Theo sees the camera, he gets distracted, and Daddy's not so funny anymore. Enjoy!

Theo's baptism

Today Theo was baptized at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Racine. As a special treat, Grandma Nancy, Uncle Ben, Auntie Trisha, and cousin Claire came to stay for the weekend. For the baptism and party, we were also joined by Granny & Grandpa Thysell, the Rodgers family from Schaumburg, Steve and our godson Elliott from Naperville, and our Racine friends Frankie, Mike, Allison, Nathan, and Mandy. We are so thankful for all our friends and family, near and far, for helping us celebrate this special day. We love you!

Theo is 2 months old!

Theo had another busy week visiting with friends and family. He got to meet a few of his great aunts and uncles, as well as more of our friends. He also attended his third Friday night fish fry during Lent. I guess we'll have to keep that tradition going for the next two Fridays! Theo has also started smiling a lot more - to me, Jay, and anyone else with a friendly face! It is very cute. His other milestone this past week was sleeping 7+ hours two nights in a row! It hasn't continued consistently yet, but at least we know he can do it!

In other news, I officially became a stay-at-home mom today. I said goodbye to my life at Modine, but at least I know I'll still see our friends, even if it's not every day.

More adventures with Theo

It's been two weeks since my last post, and Theo has been a busy boy. Since Jay has been out of town a lot this month, we've been spending lots of time with my parents. We also had a fun weekend visit with Gary and Deb, who drove down from the Twin Cities. On Saturday, we had an Irish breakfast at Trinity in Milwaukee, then walked around a bit, and went to the Domes. That was Jay's first time at the Domes and probably my first time there since Senior Ball in high school! It's a nice place to go in the winter in Wisconsin. Last Thursday, Theo and I drove out to Cambridge to visit Amy, Nora, and Max. Sarah and Megan were visiting from the Twin Cities. We had a fun afternoon together. It was Theo's furthest trip from home - about an hour and a half away. He sleeps well in the car, so it was a nice trip for both of us! Then we spent the night at my parents' house - Theo's first overnight away from home! (Am I overdoing it with the "firsts"??) I had a hard time sleeping in the same room with him because he makes so much noise! Maybe next time, we'll get separate rooms. :)

Watch out, world... I'm starting to smile!

Theo started smiling this past week. We can only get about one smile per day from him, but Jay managed to capture the moment on film one day. Although he's a little stingy with the smiles now, I know he'll be a friendly guy and heartbreaker just like his dad someday!

Another week of firsts for Theo...

Highlights included:
- first trip to Granny & Grandpa's house in New Berlin.
- first walk outside in his cool stroller.
- first trip to Chipotle.
- first visit to the McIntosh's house to meet Theo's new friends Lauren & Ben.
- first time trying breastmilk from a bottle.

Tomorrow Theo will be 1 month old! Wow - time flies when you're having fun!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This past week, Theo entertained several more visitors, including Alina, Steve, Elliott, and Rosemary, who came up from Naperville, IL, last Sunday. Yesterday, Theo celebrated Valentine's Day with a visit from Francesca, Jeff, Allison, and Nathan.

2 weeks old

Theo is 2 weeks old already! At his check up on Friday, he weighed 8 lbs, 8 oz - I guess he is eating well! He is still sleeping well, but is also having a little more awake time each day. He takes long naps during the day (~ 4 hrs), so we just need to figure out how to get him to do that at night! Other highlights of the week include:
- a weekend visit from Grandma and Grandpa Matter, who took the train all the way from Detroit Lakes, MN, just to see little Theo.
- celebrating Granny Thysell's 65th birthday.
- trying a pacifier for the first time.
- spending quiet time in his swing, bouncy seat, and floor gym.
- lots of visitors at the house.
- and even more cuteness!

It's a Boy!

Theodore Jerome was born 01-22-10 at 9:41 am at 7 lb 7 oz and 18 3/4". Baby Theo is very alert and curious about the world when he is not eating or sleeping. We are so grateful for his and mom's good health. Click on the picture for more photos.
